The characters in The White Elephant of Panschin:
Airik Shelleen: He faces the consequences of his and his predecessor’s decisions every day.
Veronica Bradwell: Decisions other people made constrain her own desperate need to escape.
Shelby Bradwell: She wants acceptance so badly but who would ever accept someone like her?
Malcolm Cobb: He can’t have what he wants, starting with being accepted as who he is without a fight.
Neza Molony: She’d dearly love to see her nieces settled but what can she do to make that happen?
Professor Lemuel Vitebskin: He adores his carefully manufactured image but not everyone else does.
Upton Shelleen: His job description doesn’t include chasing girls but he pursues them anyway.
Elliot: He doesn’t want his boss to learn about his secret hobby.
Nunzio: He does his job and for now, that’s enough.
Lulu: She’d like more than she has and maybe, just maybe, she might get it if she’s ruthless enough.
Florence Yee: She prays every day that her past does not determine her future.
Desmond Wong: he behaves like another drone in a dead-end job, secured for him by his family’s connections, but he has secrets of his own.
An unnamed thug: he’s just doing his job; it’s nothing personal, although he really does enjoy his job. He’d also like you to call him ‘sweetheart’ because you don’t need to know his real name.
Various members of the Twelve Happiness Luxury Hotel: They’re just doing their jobs too, thank you very much. They’ve got kids to feed. You should be happy!
The concierge of the Twelve Happiness Luxury Hotel: he wants everyone to be happy whether they like it or not.
Gaston Shelleen: he deeply resents Airik. Why was that whippersnapper elevated over him when he’d had years and years on the job?
Mrs. Helga Grisson: if she doesn’t know, then it’s not worth knowing.
Dean Kangjuon: He can’t understand why anybody but him should matter.
Kip McGrant: he’s not a good boyfriend but they haven’t quite figured that out yet. He hasn’t either.
Clyde Monez: He’s both devious and talented, which is why he succeeded.
Reyansh Philpott: he isn’t as superior as he thinks he is.
Mrs. Wangmo: a fair-weather friend.
Simon Bradwell: he wanted what he wanted and damned everyone else to ruin without a second thought.
Sajag Burgess: he plays favorites and his underlings and subordinates despise him for it.
The desk sergeant: he’s got more than enough to do and doesn’t need the White Elephant’s problems piled on the heap he’s already managing.
Jeffen: he’s ambitious too, but he’s got a different, less traditional ladder to climb.
Hurkle: he’s a bartender now, he used to be a prize fighter, but he’s always been a member of Blue Sun
Kendra Atto: She’s a well-connected princess but she won’t get what she demands and expects.
Peng McGrant: he’ll be very disappointed in his son when he finds out what happened.
Winifred Qiao: she didn’t know why she was selected and neither did anyone else.
Bhupathi Middleton: he’s Reyansh Philpott’s best friend and so models his own behavior after his idol.
The Twelve Happiness Luxury Hotel staff doctor: the stories he could tell about the guests will make your hair stand on end. He’s a professional so he plans on waiting until after he retires and moves away to cash in on them.
Marmaduke Qiao: He likes clear rules, for him and for everyone else.
Bertram Qiao: He never thought his daughter would be so wayward.
Charlie: he’s out of his depth and terrified of failing. He knows what happens to people who fail.
Inigo Schopenhour: Airik’s new secretary but there is a question of his loyalty. It may not be to Airik.
